openai is powering up with employees before an ipo

there were 7 notable hires since february 2026. here's the recap:

• feb 15 – @steipete, creator of openclaw, joins to drive the next generation of personal agents

• feb 26 – @ruomingpang joins from meta, where she oversaw ai infrastructure for superintelligence labs, brought in to strengthen compute and model architecture

• april 22 – colleen kapase arrives from google cloud's channel leadership to run the newly launched openai partner network, aimed at training 300,000 certified corporate ai consultants

• may 26 – @colinjfleming, poached from servicenow and formerly evp at salesforce, takes over commercial brand expansion and the corporate marketing push

• june 18 – @NoamShazeer, former google gemini co-lead, joins as a core ai researcher

• june 18 – @deanwball, former white house senior ai policy adviser, comes in to lead a new "strategic futures" policy team

• june 18 – ha thai, who previously ran communications for meta's reality labs, becomes vp of communications for the consumer devices division, helping shape openai's debut ai hardware

they're closing every front sector by sector – and the hires keep getting heavier. clearly, openai knows the race isn't won by models. it's won by people

the company is hiring at an average pace of 12 people per day, with plans to hit roughly 8,000 total employees by the end of the year
