seedance 2.5 vs minimax h3 vs grok imagine 1.5 vs gemini omni

pulse Illustration of a robot with umbrella under a streetlamp while three men examine phones — scenes from an AI video model test.

three scenes, 30 seconds each, all are inspired by legendary movie moments — can you guess all three of them?

• two duelists with energy blades on a platform above molten metal
• a soldier sprinting through a battlefield in one unbroken run
• a robot dancing with an umbrella under a streetlamp in the rain

more details: 1280x720, reference-to-video with heavy text direction – a character turnaround ref, a location ref, small storyboards, and every movement, camera move and beat written out with timecodes. same refs, same storyboard, same direction for everyone. the only variable was the model

• seedance 2.5 (bytedance)
• minimax h3 (@MiniMax_AI)
• grok imagine 1.5 (@SpaceXAI / @imagine)
• gemini omni (@GoogleDeepMind)

only seedance 2.5 shot 30 seconds in a single take. the other three had to chain 2 or 3 clips, and every chain point is where the character drifts, the light jumps or the choreography resets. that – not resolution, not price – is what separated them

overall results:

clips needed for 30 seconds
#1 seedance 2.5 – 1 x 30s
#2 grok imagine 1.5 – 2 x 15s
#3 minimax h3 – 2 x 15s
#4 gemini omni – 3 x 10s

cost per 30s scene
#1 grok imagine 1.5 – $2.40
#2 gemini omni – $3.03
#3 minimax h3 – $3.90
#4 seedance 2.5 – $9.00

quality, our judgement
#1 seedance 2.5 – best motion, detail and storyboard adherence
#2 minimax h3 – close behind, native 2k + stereo audio
#3 grok imagine 1.5 – solid for its price, weaker in the complex scene
#4 gemini omni – weakest in our scenario

observations:

1. max clip length is the hidden variable. it decides how many seams you carry: seedance zero, grok and minimax one each, omni two. in a 30-second continuous-motion scene that is exactly where all four were judged, and it is the one spec nobody puts on a model card

2. price and quality track each other almost perfectly, 3.75x from cheapest to dearest. which makes the split obvious: grok is the trade you want for drafts, background and volume – finals go to seedance or h3

3. speed doesn't rescue you. omni was the fastest of the four and finished last. it also needed the most pieces, so the time it saved generating came back as two seams to hide. minimax is the mirror image – slowest by a wide margin, second best result

4. our test aimed straight at omni's weak spot and straight at seedance's strength. a dense reference storyboard is the one thing omni is worst at, while it leads at rewriting finished video from text and reusing characters and voices. for a different job the ranking flips – grok is #1 on the image-to-video arena at bringing a single frame to life with identity lock, minimax takes photo, video and audio refs in one task and does motion transfer off someone else's footage, seedance chains multiple shots from a single prompt
