what's new:

– claude docs: collaborative documents you write with claude, editable by both sides, shareable by link
– claude slides: presentations built from the same chat, downloadable as powerpoint or pdf
– claude design: now lives inside conversations, not in a separate surface
– background execution: hand claude the brief, close your laptop, check progress from your phone. claude keeps working

@bcherny, creator of claude code, on the logic behind the merge: claude code showed developers could hand off a feature and come back to shipped code. cowork proved knowledge workers could do the same. merging them was the obvious next step.

the community already sees the next gap: claude has skills, memory, projects, and now scheduling – the building blocks are there. but they're still separate pieces. developers already chain orchestration skills into reusable pipelines – build a workflow once, run it forever. knowledge workers can't do that yet. no way to wire three skills into a sequence and trigger it with one prompt. the surface is unified but the composable layer on top isn't.

google and notion still need you in the chair. claude doesn't – but its building blocks still don't chain into reusable workflows. that's the next wall to break.
